Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation offers $7,500 in grants, scholarships

Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation (MVCF) invites all eastern Montgomery County residents, schools and nonprofit organizations to apply for $7,500 in scholarships and grants being awarded this spring.

The awards come from the following funds administered by MVCF:

G.W. and Dot King Scholarship Fund ($3,000). This award is given to outstanding residents of eastern Montgomery County, Va., who are enrolling in college, technical school or other post-secondary educational opportunity in fall 2012. The award is based on a strong commitment to community service; a clear desire to continue the educational journey; a broad range of extracurricular/community activities and/or work experience; academic achievement; and the need for financial assistance.

Loraine Ryan Educational Fund ($2,500). The purpose of this fund is to award grants to governmental (i.e., public schools, libraries, etc.) and non-profit organizations in support of educational programs, projects and equipment that benefit school-age children in eastern Montgomery County, Va.

James E. Pearman, Sr., Legacy Fund ($1,500). The purpose of this fund is to support programs, projects and the operation of Camp Alta Mons, Project LINC and The Meadowbrook Center.

Karen Cronin Legacy Fund ($500). The purpose of this fund is to award grants to governmental (i.e., public schools, libraries, etc.) and non-profit organizations based in eastern Montgomery County, Va., in support of gardening, artistic and beautification projects and programs. Preference will be given to the landscaping needs at The Meadowbrook Center.

Applications are available at the Meadowbrook Public Library, Waldron Family YMCA and online at www.eastmontva.com. The application deadline is May 1.
