Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation awards 6 scholarships totaling $3,000

Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation congratulates the following five Eastern Montgomery High School graduates who each received a $500 scholarship in May from the Foundation’s G.W. and Dot King Scholarship Fund.

Hannah Austin-Grantham plans to attend either Hollins University or Roanoke College and study communication disorders in order to work one day with the hearing impaired.

Ashley King plans to attend New River Community College and eventually get a nursing degree.

Michael Shelor plans to attend UVa-Wise.

Kristi Shelton plans to attend Wytheville Community College and get a degree as a dental hygienist.

Joseph Vishneski plans to attend Bridgewater College.

MVCF also awarded a $500 scholarship to Megan Kell, who graduated Eastern Montgomery High School in 2008 and willl begin her senior year at Radford University in the fall. She has received a $500 scholarship from MVCF each of her years at Radford.

MVCF awarded these scholarships based on the recipients’ community service (40 percent); financial need (25 percent); activities and/or work experience (25 percent); and academics (10 percent).

Established in 2004, the G.W. and Dot King Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $13,000 to local students seeking to pursue their post-secondary educations.
