We invite you to celebrate with us a legacy.

Dr. George R. Smith, Jr.

In honor of their service to our community, Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation has created “legacy funds” in the name of:

  • Dr. George R. Smith, Jr., who in December 2010  retired from the board of the Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation – the organization he founded almost 30 years ago to enhance the quality of life here in eastern Montgomery County;
  • James E. Pearman, Sr., who passed away in March 2010, spent his working career at the Bank of Shawsville, retiring as Chairman of the Board; was a charter member of the Shawsville Ruritan Club; a member of Craighill 160 MasonicLodge and the Kazim Shrine Temple.

  • Karen A. Cronin, who passed away in February 2011, was a founding member of theEastMont Garden Club, EastMont Arts Association, EastMont Tomato Festival committee, and a board member of Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation.

We invite you to join each of us in honoring  their legacies by contributing to their Funds.

These Funds will provide a perpetual resource for

the Foundation to further its mission through:

  • Capital investments through new facilities and programs at The Meadowbrook Center such as the Waldron Family YMCA, Pottery Studio, and Friendship Café;
  • Investments in the region’s social capital through support of community groups like the EastMont Arts Association and Shawsville Farmer’s Market;
  • Investments in people through scholarships and grants to area students and schools.
