Waldron Y Thrift Store, Pottery Studio open April 24
The Waldron Family Y is pleased to announce the opening of both its new Thrift Store and Pottery Studio on EastMont Garden Day, April 24.
For sale in the Thrift Store will be a host of gently used household items – clothing, furniture, books, housewares, electronics and more. Proceeds from the Thrift Store will benefit the YMCA at Virginia Tech, which operates the Waldron Family Y.
All spring-cleaners out there … the Waldron Y Thrift Store gives eastern Montgomery County residents a local place to donate items for a tax deduction. Call or stop by the Y today to make a donation.
The Thrift Store will be open Thursday evenings and Friday and Saturday mornings, though hours of operation are still being determined. It will be housed in a spruced-up building behind The Meadowbrook Center that has been extensively renovated by Eastern Montgomery High School student Nicholas Vishneski, who worked with volunteers and his Boy Scout Troop 720 as part of his Eagle Scout project.
To celebrate the Thrift Store’s opening, the Waldron Family Y will host an Antique Road Show of sorts on Friday, April 23, from 4-7 p.m. For $10, you can bring an antique to be professionally appraised, enjoy some food and drink, and be the first to peak – and purchase – at the Thrift Store!
The Pottery Studio, located inside Meadowbrook next to the recreation center, will be home to classes in Beginning Pottery, The Wheel Experience, and Hand-building. The Y will also offer monthly studio access passes and firing passes for artists in need of a kiln or a place to work.
The Mountain Valley Charitable Foundation (MVCF), which has partnered with the YMCA at Virginia Tech to operate the Waldron Family Y, provided the nearly $7,000 to fund the construction of the Pottery Studio. Ironto resident Amy Shea – a Y member and co-owner of EastMont Massage Therapy located inside Meadowbrook – donated the studio’s kiln.
You can enjoy a 10 percent discount on Thrift Store purchases and Pottery Studio classes by being either a Waldron Family Y member or a YMCA at Virginia Tech community member. Become a member on April 23-24 and the Y will waive your joining fee.
To make a reservation for the Antique Road Show, to make an appointment to drop off donations, to be placed on the Pottery Studio update email list, or to become a YMCA member, please call the Waldron Family Y at 268.1623.
