East Mont Boys Basketball to move on to State Play

Saturday night the Mustangs played the Galax Maroon Tide in the final of the Region C tournament. The Mustangs fired it up to stomp the Tide 63-47, outscoring the Tide in every quarter but the fourth. Junior Shawn Christian led the Mustangs, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. The Mustangs will now move on to play Appalachia in the first round of the state tournament at Salem Civic Center on Saturday, March 6th at 12:30 p.m.

EMHS Scholastic Bowl team to move on to State Competition

Saturday the Eastern Montgomery Scholastic Bowl team battled with schools from across Region C in the regional tournament for one of two spots to advance to state competition. Opening with George Wythe, the Mustangs made short work of the match, winning 255-60. They then went on to defeat Parry McCluer before facing off against Radford and losing. The Mustangs then rallied, beating Parry McCluer a second time to face Radford in the finals. In the finals, the Mustangs fell 225-150 but will advance to the VHSL State Scholastic Bowl competition, hosted by the College of William and Mary on Saturday, February 27th.

Local band featured in Roanoke Times NRV Current

Looking to plan a spring activity? Check out the Roanoke Times article on local band The Celtibillies and their upcoming debut at the Pulaski Theatre. A band that has been playing all over the New River Valley for over 15 years, they will visit the Pulaski Theatre for the first time on Saturday, April 17th at 7:30 p.m., having had to reschedule the original concert due to snow. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. They are available at Coffee Buy the Book, Martin’s Pharmacy, at the door or online.

Meadowbrook hosts renowned landscape urban designer on Friday

Help vision the future of Meadowbrook by joining a design charrette Friday, Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Community Center. The gathering is hosted by the Virginia Tech Community Design Assistance Center, which is coordinating a master plan for The Meadowbrook Center grounds.

Featured speaker is Randolph Hester, professor of landscape architecture & environmental planning and urban design at the University of California at Berkeley.

The event is part of a three-day Virginia Tech symposium.

EMHS Scholastic Bowl team to move on to Regionals

Thursday night the Eastern Montgomery Scholastic Bowl team went up against teams from the Three Rivers district in the district tournament, losing in the finals to become district runner-ups. Going undefeated in the beginning rounds to earn a bye into the final round, the Mustangs played a tight final round with Radford, having to play two matches to decide the champion. The Mustangs will now move on to the Regional tournament, hosted by Radford on Saturday, February 6th.
